American History: A Principled Perspective

American history is more than a collection of names, dates, and events. It is the story of ideas, principles, choices, and consequences that shaped a nation.

Using Nation Makers: The Art of Self-Government as our primary text, students will examine America’s founding through a principled, biblical perspective. We will explore the ideas of liberty, Christian character, self-government, law, education, and government and consider how these principles influenced the development of the American nation.

Throughout the 26-week middle and high school online class (Sep 2026 – May 2027), students will be challenged not simply to learn what happened, but to reason about why it happened, what principles were at work, and what those principles produced. Through reading, discussion, written reasoning, vocabulary study, and notebook work, students will develop a deeper understanding of the idea of America while strengthening their ability to think and reason from biblical principles.

For Christian homeschool students ages 13–18 who are ready and willing to research, reason, reflect, and review the biblical worldview of a Christian nation with the help of a veteran homeschool mom. We meet every Thursday on Google Meet. Lessons will be recorded for those who are absent.

You’ll need the following supplies: Textbook: Nation Makers, a Bible, Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, a computer with a good camera and microphone, a gmail address to access Google Meet for live classes, paper, pencils, a 3-ring binder (half inch is fine), and a printer (optional).
